I’ve been a serious thrifter for the past ten years. I get elated when I go into a store, or shop the online auction and find unique pieces that suit my personality. I love to go against the trends and wear timeless, or dated pieces that show off my unique style.
My favorite place to shop is the Goodwill. They have lots of stores all over my state, and the country. And, with their online auction option, you are sure to find one-of-a kind clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry that will make you stand out.
My favorite fashion pieces are purses, jewelry and coats (or jackets). I have found the following five pieces in Goodwill stores or won the bid for them on their online auction.
Wool Coat with Fur Collar: I found this stylish, warm coat in a store a few years ago and it fits my style perfectly. It’s reserved with a splash of flair. (See cover photo)
Thigh High Snake Skin Boots:
I got these unforgettable, sexy thigh high boots in a store about two years ago. I was headed to Las Vegas, and wanted some shoes to match all the fun I knew I’d have. I always thoroughly sanitize any second-hand items I purchase, and try to find brand new or gently used shoes.
Vintage Gucci Monogram Crossbody Purse: It took few bids on the Goodwill online auction before I was able to get this bag, but it was worth it. It is in fair condition and works with almost any outfit. I love purchasing thrifted designer bags from the Goodwill because they are usually authenticated and they will send the paperwork to you.
Vintage Fendi Clutch Bag: I recently won the bid for this cute little Fendi clutch. It came with the authentication paperwork, a necklace and earring set. I can’t wait to rock this timeless vintage bag.
Silk Wrap-Tie Blouse: I absolutely love this blouse that I found in a local Goodwill store about three years ago. It’s 100% silk with a lovely navy-blue floral print. The wrap style flatters my shape and I love pairing it with my favorite dark blue jeans.
Thrifting Tips:
1. As you shop, if you like something pick it up and place it in your cart. You can sort through your items after you’re done shopping, otherwise you run the risk of someone snatching it up if you leave it.
2. Try the Goodwill’s online auction. You are able to bid on items from all over the country and not just those in your area or state. Once you create an account, add pieces you like to your “watch list” and bid on them within the last five minutes of the auction to improve your chances of winning the piece.
3. Place an open Ziplock bag filled with coffee grinds or baking soda in your vintage purse to help remove the “vintage smell.” Then, make sure you use the bags consistently so they can soak up the scents of your items.
