My Thoughts on 3 of Oprah's Rules for Success

I understand now, more than ever that I must stay on a frequency of positivity, faith and abundance with my thoughts to create the life of peace, freedom and creativity that I want. This rule is absolutely true: everything we have and do, starts with our thoughts. If you don’t believe that, take a moment to think about something you have in your life and then trace it back to its origin. That seed you planted was a thought that you watered to make it a reality. That’s why it is important to water those thoughts that will create the life you want.

Self-Care: Gratitude Journaling

I've kept a journal since I was a teenager. Writing was a natural way for me to express myself. I'd write poetry, short stories and details about my day and my crushes. I always felt relieved after I'd write, especially when I could let go of thoughts I didn't want to or didn't have the courage to, speak out loud.

Fast forward many years later and I am still writing in my journal, but this year while in quarantine due to the pandemic, I decided to start a gratitude journal.

A Written Reflection: Dear 17-Year-Old Me, I’m Glad You Took that Advice

Year seventeen was an interesting one for me, as I’m sure it is for all teenagers. There was a lot I knew about myself and had come to believe about myself. I knew I was a writer. My aunt, who’d helped raise me (and read my diaries and poetry without my permission, Lol), told me I was a few years prior, and by that point I believed it. I loved to write and could trace that love as far back as the second grade. But there were a lot of things I didn’t know and didn’t take seriously; school was one of them.

4 Things I Realized While Watching 'Girlfriends' in My 30s

Girlfriends, one of my favorite sitcoms, debuted in the fall of 2000 and had eight seasons. I was starting my freshman year of college when the story of Joan, Toni, Lynn and Maya began. I would catch episodes now and then, but didn’t fully get into the show as a must-watch-every-week fan until about 2005. By that time, I was in my early-twenties and looked at many of the situations, relationships and the friendships between the ladies, through that lens.

I’ve been watching the show over the past few months on Netflix and found myself more interested in many of the storylines and experiences of the characters because I had now experienced a lot of them myself. Here are four things I realized while watching Girlfriends in my 30s.

My Top Five Thrifted Pieces

I’ve been a serious thrifter for the past ten years. I get elated when I go into a store, or shop the online auction and find unique pieces that suit my personality. I love to go against the trends and wear timeless, or dated pieces that show off my unique style.

My favorite place to shop is the Goodwill. They have lots of stores all over my state, and the country. And, with their online auction option, you are sure to find one-of-a kind clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry that will make you stand out.

Travel with Me: Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Dubai has become a must-visit destination with its luxurious hotels, malls and restaurants. It did not disappoint and I plan to go back because I didn’t have an opportunity to do all the things I wanted to do while there. I purchased roundtrip tickets through Emirates airlines and I loved the flights and service. I later learned I could’ve saved money by using Google Flight alerts, which I use now. It was my second time taking a flight that long and I did not want layovers, so I opted for non-stop flights.

Here’s a recap of my favorite events, places and excursions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
