Who knew an awkward fall would lift my spirits so much? The past few months have been heavy. We are all experiencing the effects of the Corona Virus pandemic. The deaths, uncertainty, restrictions and loss have taken a toll on everyone on some level. This was compounded with the trauma of watching the videos or reading about Black men and women being killed by police, or being racially profiled. The senseless death of George Floyd (I still haven’t watched the whole video), the protests and looting that ensued, and the insensitive comments of the current president about said protestors have had me mentally and emotionally drained.
So, when I tuned into Season 4, episode eight of Insecure and saw Issa, skin glowing as bright as her smile, clad in a red designer cutout blazer, fall flat on her face in front of everyone at a bar where she was meeting up with Lawrence to talk, I burst into a loud laughter that was refreshing to my heavy spirit.
Lawrence gets up from the bar and extends his hand to help Issa up, but she tells him she’s got it, lies there for like five awkward minutes and then gets up and proceeds with their…date?
This episode gave me all the feels, which surprised me because I have never been #TeamLawrence. Gasp! Yes, up until this season, I didn’t see the chemistry or strong compatibility between the two central characters.
